Hydrosol Bactericidal Solution

Main Use

Active Ingredient

Manufacturer

Oral hygiene

Hydrogen Peroxide 6 %

Vital Drugs & Pharmaceuticals

How does it work?

Hydrosol (Hydrogen Peroxide 6 % ) is a multi-purpose bactericidal used as a powerful oxidizing & deodorizing agent used for cleaning wounds. The 3% solution is sometimes called ten volume strength, since one volume of it releases ten volumes of oxygen when it decomposes. Hydrosol 6% bactericidal solution produces 20 times its volume of nascent oxygen. The effervescence of nascent oxygen detaches dead tissues and pockets of bacteria from periodontal pockets of root canal bringing out debris from the inaccessible parts

Why does hydrogen peroxide foam when you put it on a cut?

The reason why it foams is because blood and cells contain an enzyme called catalase. Since a cut or scrape contains both blood and damaged cells, there is lots of catalase floating around. When the catalase comes in
contact with hydrogen peroxide, it turns the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into water (H2O) and oxygen gas (O2).

H2O2 --> H2O + O2

Catalase does this extremely efficiently -- up to 200,000 reactions per second. The bubbles you see in the foam are pure oxygen bubbles being created by the catalase. Try putting a little hydrogen peroxide on a cut potato and it will do the same thing for the same reason -- catalase in the damaged potato cells reacts with the hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide does not foam in the bottle or on your skin because there is no catalase to help the reaction to occur. Hydrogen peroxide is stable at room temperature.

What is it used for?

  • Aid to maintaining oral hygiene

Dentyne-F Gel

Main Use

Active Ingredient

Manufacturer

Severe Dental Hypersensitivity
& Cariostatic agent

Potassium Nitrate &
Sodium Monoflourophosphate

Vital Drugs & Pharmaceuticals

 Potassium Nitrate

How does it work?

It is believed that potassium ions as present in Dentyne, desensitizes the dentine, by depolarizing the pulpal sensory nerve. Once the potassium ions depolarize the nerve fibers, they cannot re-polarize, because of high level of extra cellular potassium, and with a sustained depolarized state there occurs a state in which no action potential (or pain signals) can be evoked. As a result pain due to hot, cold and other stimuli is effectively blocked off.

 Sodium Monoflourophosphate

How does it work?

It acts as a source of fluoride, and hence as an anticaries agent. The active species in sodium monofluorophosphate is the soluble fluorophosphate ion and the free fluoride ion. Applying fluoride directly to the surface of the teeth is effective at any time after the teeth have erupted, and offers extra benefits to those of systemic fluoride. Dentyne-F Gel with its low abrasive formula has been specially formulated for the treatment of Dental Hypersensitivity as well as cariostatic agent.

What is it used for?

Dental Hypersensitivity usually occurs when enamel, which is the outermost layer of a tooth, wears away due to a variety of reasons. As a result the following layer called as Dentine which contains a network of nerves get exposed. When these exposed nerves comes into
contact with various substances, gives pain as the result. Pain associated with dental hypersensitivity is induced by cold or hot temperature more commonly cold; by citrus fruits or sweets because of there acidic contents, or by contact with a toothbrush or any hard substance.

Severe Pain due to dental hypersensitivity of varied etiology

  • thermal i.e. exposure to hot or cold temperatures
  • tactile i.e. contact with acidic food or any hard and abrasive substance
  How to use ?

To be applied to teeth & gums 2-3 time a day, depending upon severity of condition, using a soft tooth brush. In case of sever hypersensitivity & as in inflamed gums, Dentyne may be applied with a finger & rubbed in gently. Dentyne is to be preferably applied after meals & one should refrain from consuming any food or drink for at least 30-45 min after each application.

Clorex Mouthwash

Main Use

Active Ingredient

Manufacturer

Oral hygiene

Chlorhexidine Gluconate (dental)

Vital Drugs & Pharmaceuticals

How does it work?

CLOREX is an antiseptic and disinfectant agent, which is active against various bacteria, viruses, bacterial spores and fungi. It kills the micro-organisms associated with various mouth and throat infections, and other common conditions in the mouth. These include the Candida albicans fungi that causes thrush infection in the mouth, and bacteria that may infect mouth ulcers or other sore areas in the mouth, e.g. after dental surgery. Infection of these areas increases discomfort and delays healing.

CLOREX has also been shown to prevent the formation and build up of plaque on teeth, which helps prevent inflammation of the gums (gingivitis). It can therefore be used as an aid to oral hygiene, particularly in instances where tooth brushing is a problem, e.g. following dental surgery or in physically or mentally handicapped people.

CLOREX is available as a mouthwash, a spray or a dental gel for the treatment of common dental conditions. The gel is used to brush the teeth, or for direct application to sore areas in the mouth. The action of rinsing the mouth with the mouthwash provides a mechanical cleaning action in the mouth. The spray is applied to tooth and gum surfaces, ulcers and other sore areas. All kill micro-organisms in the areas they are in
contact with and help maintain oral hygiene.

What is it used for?

  • Aid to maintaining oral hygiene
  • Inflammation of the lining of the mouth due to irritation from dentures
  • Oral thrush (candidasis)
  • Painful white ulcers in the mouth (apthous ulcers)
  • Prevention and treatment of gum disease (gingivitis)
  • Prevention of plaque build-up on the teeth
  • Promoting gum healing after dental surgery

Warning!

  • The mouthwash should be used as directed to rinse the mouth. It should be spat out, not swallowed.
  • CLOREX is incompatible with certain ingredients of conventional toothpastes. Toothpastes should be used first and the mouth (and if necessary toothbrush) rinsed before using CLOREX, or they should be used at a different time of day.
  • Avoid contact of this medicine with the eyes and ears. If it comes into contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • When treating mouth ulcers or oral thrush infections, treatment should be continued for two days after the symptoms have cleared up.
  • When treating inflammation caused by denture rubbing, the dentures should be cleaned and soaked for 15 minutes twice a day in CLOREX mouthwash.

Not to be used in

  • Hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.
